15 Years and still lots to learn…
Hey, hey, hey!!! The day is, I guess, officially over – Midas and I, on Wednesday, July 25th, celebrated 15 years of marriage… I promised to take the day off – much needed, since I worked till 10pm the night before showing houses to a client relocating to the area…
We had planned to go to the Seaquarium – somewhere I haven’t been since childhood, but I slept late – woke up at 11am, I think… After I got up, brushed my teeth, pulled on my robe, etc., I went out to go downstairs for coffee. As I opened the bedroom door I saw a card from my honey… It was such a sweet card, and you want to know what was in the card that was the best and ONLY gift I would ever want – he wrote inside it “I’d do it all over again, woman!!!”
Tears ran down my face, especially since I remembered at that point that me – the one who usually does the card thing – had worked so much and so late the night before, I had forgotten to get him a card! He is the one that doesn’t usually do cards – and there it was!!! The best possible gift anyone could ever ask for…
15 years of marriage, 7 years of dating before that – and we argue and get annoyed like anyone else, but honestly – we’re still so much in love!!! He’s my absolute best friend – no matter how talking to him at times drives me crazy, I can’t help but go to him with every single thought, problem, issue or concern… He is the only person I want to be around ALL the time!!!
You know how some girls have girls’ weekends/vacations? Not me – there’s no-one I’d rather go on vacation with than my hubby!!! I love you Boo!!! As I said tonight – we’re so BLESSED to have what we have…
So, it was a great day – we never made it to the seaquarium – but it was a fun, different, interesting day!!! We went to Bal Harbour to a new condo building to collect some paperwork, and met a cool, brand new Realtor HUSTLING!!! Man, was I impressed by this kid!! 1 year into the business – entered the industry at one of the toughest times ever… I think he said he came from a family owned 1000 acre dairy farm in Idaho or somewhere like that…
At age 25, he found that he had loads of grapefruit sized bloodclots in his body and was basically paralysed from the waist down… He was declared officially disabled, but he described himself as a walking miracle – and he is… He is one of the most positive, upbeat kids I’ve ever met – running around this new building in this tough market, meeting everyone, making friends and contacts and personally letting everyone know and see what he has for sale in the building!!! I took his card, because this is a kid I would recruit in a heartbeat – an inspiration that thinks of all the ways he can make things work, instead of all the reasons that he might fail… Wow!!!
From there, we went to have lunch at Carpaccio’s in The Bal Harbour Shops (one of our favorite restaurants), where we met two really cool servers. The first one heard our accent and immediately asked where we were from. When we said Jamaica, he said he’d been there on a cruise that stopped over for a couple days, so he really had a chance to get around and see the country…
He told us laughingly of getting off the ship and seeing this front of guys looking like peddlers of the merry little weed, but he immediately was suspicious of them for some reason – turned out they were undercover cops trying to catch unsuspecting tourists looking for a bit of a puff.. .
No, he said – he walked away and deep into the flea market, saw this dread with very red eyes and thought, “This is the one”, so he went to him and asked “What’s your name?” “Chris the farmer”… He had lucked out, for sure – had himself a grand old time!!! Drove into kingston, got all around the island – he loved it!!!
Our other server came and told us he was our neighbor, as he was from Cuba. “How long have you been here?” I asked. He replied only 4 months – but that thhis was his time – his opportunity!!! A new life – a new shot at the American dream – I wish the guy the very best of luck!!!
Tonight we went for dinner over on Las Olas – a hot spot in east Ft. Lauderdale. Its not far from us at all, but we really never go there. I asked a friend to recommend a good restaurant, and we went to Big City Tavern. We both enjoyed our meals tremendously and so now, we’re back home!!! Midas is taking a quick check on his trading, so I thought I’d use the time to bringy’all up to date!!!
As for things still left to learn – well!!! When I told my mom today that we’ve been married for 15 years, she said “Oh, my God, you’re getting old!” I laughed and said “Thanks, Mom!” But the funny thing is – we are getting older, I guess, but this morning I realized that we – or maybe I should say I still have lots left to learn…
I decided to make coffee in my coffee machine!!! A machine I use basically every day!!! The lid of the coffee pot somehow got out of its groove, so I now have it just placed loosely on the pot, as I haven’t figured out how to reattach it. Anyway, as I went to make my coffee this morning, I thought, “What the heck am I putting this lid on for anyway? Its just annoying, because I keep worrying that I have not set it on top properly and that it will cause the coffee to spill all over the counter. So… I decided to make the coffee without the seemingly useless lid!!!
BIG MISTAKE!!! Did I say BIG MISTAKE!!! If any of you have ever wondered whether the lid has a purpose, let me assure you right now, IT DOES!!! It actually touches something on the filter holder that allows it to
relaease the water flowing through freely! If its not there, the water backs up in the filter holder and starts to overflow – coffee grains and all!! What a mess – and did I ever feel like an idiot!!! Oh well – so much for getting older – no-one ever said wisdom was guaranteed with age – only experience!!!
Latahs!!!
